Chief Master Sergeant Charles Douglas (Doug) King |
As an aside, 52 deaths on one day of the year is much lower than average for the Vietnam War. If the 58,000 deaths were evenly spread over the 365 days of the year, the average would be about 160 on each calendar date. The lower number for December 25 is likely due to Christmas truces that were sometimes observed.
Here are the American heroes on died in Vietnam on a Christmas Day. One of them, Charles Douglas King, died when he volunteered for a mission to try and rescue a downed pilot. His story is told here. http://tinyurl.com/qxw6ff8
