Stephen Caleb Forrest should be celebrating his 67th
birthday today with children and grandchildren by his side, but he never got
the chance. PFC Forrest, from Westminster, California, was one of 10 Marines
who died in an ambush in Vietnam on the Fourth of July 1966. He was only 18 and
unmarried.
After all these years, his family still remembers. His Aunt
Ruth posted this message to PFC Forrest’s page on www.thewall-usa.com in 2012: “You are never
forgotten honey. I visit your grave every week. I look at your picture and
think of you and all the young men who gave their lives for our country. Will
be thinking of you on this 4th of July with much sadness as this was the day
you were killed. Love you with all my heart. You will be with me each and every
day. Auntie.”
His sister, Michele, wrote, “Thank you
Stephen, for serving our country. You will always remain in our hearts!”
